Perspective

I have been walking with Ann over the last week as she was in Guatemala with a group of Compassion International bloggers.

I have cried, smiled, felt convicted, and had a change in my perspective. My heart aches and hurts for the children in this country. I have prayed for them and wonder why are we any different? Why do we deserve better than them? We don’t.

We are such a petty people. Worried about what we will wear, how our homes look, what we drive, and yet these people have almost nothing in material sense, but the ones that have the Lord in their hearts have more than we could ever hope for. They have none of the material things in life to weigh them down. They don't carry the baggage of possessions that we do. Look into their eyes and there is a joy and hope that is more beautiful than anything this world has to offer.

H0w do I keep an eternal perspective? I lose mine all to often and get caught up in the cares of this world. I know I can’t take anything in this life with me to heaven, and I wouldn’t want to. It’s all rubbish compared to what the Lord has for us. So why do I care?

I am praying and asking the Lord with what more I can do to make a difference. I want to raise children who have a heart for those less fortunate, for those without the Lord, children with an eternal perspective. What can we do different with our resources so that we can help others more? How can I live simply so that others may simply live?

No one tells you that wealth numbs you to life and consumerism callouses your soul to the sacred. (Ann Voskamp)

Or maybe Someone did: “"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." (Mark 10:25 NIV)

Take a walk over to Ann’s and follow her journey over the last week.
