But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.
Isaiah 43:1
I was talking with a couple of my children the other day about an incident that happened with one of them at math class. She happened to see a girl from her class sitting by herself waiting for her mother. My daughter felt the Lord wanted her to stop and talk to this girl so she did. They chatted and my daughter invited her to come and sit at the table with her and wait for her mother there. While chatting my daughter asked what the girl was drawing. When she asked her though she said the girl’s name…”________, what are you drawing?” This young girl looked at my daughter and with surprise said, “You remembered my name? Nobody ever remembers my name. It may sound silly but that made me feel important.” My daughter responded with, “______, we are all important in God’s eyes”
How many times do we actually take the time to call someone by their name? I believe it really is important. We live in a era where technology has replaced personal touch with people. We email instead of handwriting a letter, we text instead of calling, and with the invention of Facebook people can keep up with each other’s lives without having to really “invest” time in one another.
As Christians we should be declaring God to the world and what can do that more simply than just looking someone in the eye and calling them by their name? Considering that since God calls us by name, it must be important! It's such a simple, easy thing yet tells that person you are speaking to that they are not only important in God's eyes, but yours as well.
For Jacob My servant's sake, And Israel My elect, I have even called you by your name; I have named you, though you have not known Me.
Isaiah 45:4
