This is a few days late…
Shayden is our firstborn son, he broke the cycle of having only girls. We absolutely adored our little girls and would have been completely content with only ever having girls. Then we had Shayden!
Very early into my pregnancy with him I knew it was different. Within just a few months I was convinced I was having a boy! I remember Duane and I going out for dinner and talking about what to do with a boy! We didn’t know boys, we knew girls!! We were good at girls but boys were a whole new game! I remember the panic we actually felt over the responsibility of training and raising up a young man who would love the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind. A young man with godly character, who would one day raise up and support his own family. We felt scared yet so excited at the thought of a little man joining our family!
We painted the cutest blue room with puffy airplanes on the wall, the bed was decorated in all things boy. We were so convinced this was a boy even without confirmation of a sonogram.
I hit 40 weeks and no sign of labor. At that doctor appointment as our doctor was feeling my stomach he said something just didn’t feel right. He suspected this baby was breech. He sent us for a sonogram which confirmed what he thought. I remember how devastated I felt. When the sonogram tech asked if we knew what we were having we said we thought boy. He then asked if we wanted to know for sure. At that point I wanted something to cheer me up so we said yes. I figured I needed to know if we painted a blue room in vain or not. Our feelings were confirmed…BOY!!
My c-section with Shayden was very hard. The spinal didn’t work so when they started to make the cut I felt it. They quickly put me under completely and I woke up a couple hours later to a nurse shoving a Polaroid picture of my baby in my face. The recovery was also very difficult since I ended up with a spinal headache.
It took a couple weeks to recoup enough to start my baby mooning. Shayden was a sweet baby and very easy. He was welcomed and loved by three big sisters who doted on him constantly. He has endured being dressed up, nails being painted, and hair being “done”. Thankfully he had the back up of two brothers very quickly!
Shayden is such a blessing to us all. He brings so much to our home and lives. He loves his geckos and is slowly getting into the breeding process, he loves playing the piano, he is fabulous about fixing things that are broken around here, he is even willing to change diapers and above all he loves the Lord. It is amazing to me that he is now a 14 year old young man. He is a delight and we are blessed!
Happy Birthday Shayden!
