Shiro is now almost 6 weeks old! He is growing and changing daily. He is starting to smile and has lost quite a bit of his hair and also his newborn look. He is the easiest baby we have ever had!
Duane has been on family leave since Shiro’s birth. We are loving having Daddy around every day. It feels like summer vacation. The first couple of weeks he just focused on helping me out and making sure I got lots of rest. (What a great guy, eh?) He really doesn’t like just loafing though so as soon as I was up and around he quickly got busy on projects that needed done around here.
We have had boxes of laminate flooring, that we bought quite a while ago when they were on sale at Costco, just sitting in our garage waiting to be installed in the girls room. Duane and the kids got the girls room done last week. He had lots of help!
(Lolly is having lots of fun spinning in circles on the slippery floor! Simple pleasures!)
(Even the dog is helping out!)
We also got a new batch of chicks. We started out with six of them and the younger kids each named them. We are now down to five chicks after our killer Chihuahua, Lucy, decided to chase one around until it had a heart attack. So sad, huh? I’ll never look at Lucy the same.
There’s always time for silliness around here. Our goofy boys, who were supposed to be folding the laundry, decided to do a fashion show with the laundry instead. Don’t they look dashingly handsome? Shadd looks just lovely in his little sisters dress that he prefers to wear as a shirt. He likes wearing it with a cute skirt! Shannen likes to stick with his two year old sisters pants. He is actually doing the layered look complete with a pair of his mother’s underwear on. (Yeah, that one concerned me!) Shayden prefers to wear his dad’s shirt with his mama’s exercise pants. (I don’t think they are going to make it in the fashion industry)
There has also been time for inventing. We have had a little visitor in our kitchen at nice. While dad would just prefer to set a normal mouse trap the kids had a huge problem with that. Shadd even bought a cube trap with his own money. It lets the mouse crawl in but it can’t come back out. Shayden decided to make his own. He used an old mayo jar.
He cut a hole in the lid and rigged a little hinged piece of metal. The little flap opens to allow the mouse to crawl in after the nuts but it can’t get out.
This guy has an amazing mind for creating things! I can’t wait to see what the Lord does with his mind!
Father’s day was extra fun this year since we now have Bodey. Duane and Jeff had a water balloon fight against all the kids. It ended with most of the kids getting thrown into the pool. We ended the night hanging around the bonfire making smores and having root beer floats.
Duane has one week left and then it’s time to get back to real life. We have loved every minute of having him home with us! Next week it will be back to planning the next school year!
