(This post was started last Thursday, but due to a busy week at VBS I have written this a little here and a little there and finally finished it today!)
Back in May when Papa and Nana came for a visit we had our usual game of 21. This is something everyone looks forward to and we all save our pennies for months ahead of time. When Papa and Nana were here last year the game got pretty intense between Papa and Aunt Nett. When Aunt Nett did the unthinkable and took Papa to the cleaners, that day went down in history as the “day Papa almost won”.
(The big game from 09…the day Papa lost)
So coming off such a terrible blow last year, the May visit with Papa and Nana was very much anticipated, because we all knew that this 21 game had a lot at stake. “Could he-- would he regain his reputation and his title?”
The day of the big game Aunt Nett showed up with her famous little red purse full of change. The game went on for a couple hours and in the end Aunt Nett still held the title of “21 Champion”. Papa isn’t a man to back down so he came up with a proposal for Aunt Nett….to buy her little red purse for $100. She agreed and the transaction was finalized. We were all itching to find out who came out ahead in this deal, Papa or Aunt Nett. The little red purse was very, very heavy, but was it $100 worth of heavy?
(Does he look happy or what with his purchase??)
Papa let everyone take a guess at how much was in the purse and then said we could all place our votes and when he got back to Texas he would count it out and split it with whoever the lucky person was to come closest to guessing.
Once everyone placed their guesses the fun began.
Papa and Nana said they would send a clue every day, until the winner was announced.
The first clue was “the winner guessed below $83.00.” The second clue was “the winner is female”. Third clue was “The lucky girl goes by a nickname given to her by her siblings....however it is not……..SPOT (Lynette’s nickname when she was a child). Finally we received the last email with the winners name……Princess Poppet!
On Thursday Poppet received a package in the mail. Of course with the usual “Papa flair” this was not just a boring envelope with Poppet’s share of the money.
(Does she look excited or what?)
(What a surprised and delighted face!)
So what is the girl going to do with her winnings? Before anyone knew who won it was agreed upon that the winner would take everyone out for ice cream! So everyone ends up as a winner! The leftovers will go into Princess Poppet’s piggy bank!
Papa, Thanks for sharing the little red purse with us! We love you bunches and bunches! Your the best!! XOXO

Very cool!! I would love a gift like that in the mail. Congrats to Poppet!!
Does Papa wish he would have kept his $100, since the "little red purse" had less?
Such fun memories!
