An unwanted guest

I found this ugly, beastly, caterpillar on steroids in my garden! I now know “who” or should I say “what” has been nibbling on my tomatoes. The picture really doesn’t do it justice. Let me just say that even my big, strong, brave boys wouldn’t pick this thing up with their fingers! Instead we just pulled off the whole leaf it was on.

This icky creature was so amazing to look at that instead of being fed to the chickens it was put in a jar so it could continue to be oohed and aahed over. If you check out the last picture you will see that this thing was as long as the 4x4. Can we say groooosss???

Mama has now put out a bounty of $.25 for each caterpillar that is caught and then thrown to the chickens. So far I’ve only paid out $.50, but by looking at my tomato leaves this morning I know there are more to be caught!

There's actually a name for these, its the green horned worm. They thrive on tomato plants. Each year me and my mom will sneak out early in the morning while they're out to catch them. if the boys get brave, they're actually really cool. Their skin is super soft!!
And yes, they can get even bigger. is that not gross?!
