The Ney household is now the proud owners of 5 baby bunnies! We love babies around here, even animal babies. We decided to breed our bunnies and the "due date" was July 12th. A bunny breeder had told us that they are pregnant for 28 days. She made it sound like it was exactly 28 days. Well the 12th came and went. We decided that she must not be pregnant. The children were very disappointed. Three days later on the 15th Shelbie comes in and says, "Pandy is pulling out fur and putting it in the nesting box!" Renewed excitement!!! The mom is supposed to line a nesting box with her fur a couple days before she gives birth. The next morning Shyloh went out to check on her and she had given birth to 5 sweet babies! We can't touch them for about two weeks or the mom will smell our scent and kill them. Everyday they get cuter and cuter. We are counting down the days to hold them!
I tend to get fussy when I hear people talk about women being "overdue". I always like to say, "not every apple ripens at the same time, so why should we think babies do?" I guess bunnies don't all "ripen" at the same time either. We know the Lord has our days ordained and I think He even has the bunnies days ordained!
The top picture was taken the day they were born. It is hard to see very well, but they were hairless little rats. Not to cute! 2 days old. Still not so cute.
Ten days old and looking so very cute!
Their eyes opened on Saturday!
We have 2 black belts (like the mama) and 3 white with black speckles (like the daddy).
