Decrease = Increase

"He must increase, but I must decrease.” John 3:30

We are currently reading through John and we came upon this verse. It caused me to stop and really ponder how this applies to my life.

I love having a plan. Lists. Charts. You know, all my ducks in a row. My uncle and aunt used to tease me about trying to have my life all planned out when I was young. There really isn’t anything wrong with this and it probably serves me well now that I have a large family, but with that come the tendency to want to always keep to “my own” plan. My own way.

This theory on decrease equaling increase really goes against everything we hear in the world. We are told to look out for ourselves, protect ourselves, do what’s best for ourselves.

Where in my life, my home, and my heart do I need to decrease so that He may increase? He must increase because He is the Son of God. Of myself I can do nothing. Without Him I am nothing.

I’m pondering and praying and asking Him to show me where to step aside and lay down my own thoughts, plans, and desires…decrease, so that His plans, His thoughts, and His desires for my life and my families lives may increase.

Less whining, less complaining, less lack of faith, less selfishness, less having my own way, my own rights. More thankfulness, more sweetness of words, more trust, more giving up my rights, more of letting Him take control. I want my children and husband to see less of me and more of Him!

Let others see less of me Lord, and more of you. May I decrease so that you may increase in my life Father!
