An unwanted guest

I found this ugly, beastly, caterpillar on steroids in my garden! I now know “who” or should I say “what” has been nibbling on my tomatoes. The picture really doesn’t do it justice. Let me just say that even my big, strong, brave boys wouldn’t pick this thing up with their fingers! Instead we just pulled off the whole leaf it was on.

This icky creature was so amazing to look at that instead of being fed to the chickens it was put in a jar so it could continue to be oohed and aahed over. If you check out the last picture you will see that this thing was as long as the 4x4. Can we say groooosss???

Mama has now put out a bounty of $.25 for each caterpillar that is caught and then thrown to the chickens. So far I’ve only paid out $.50, but by looking at my tomato leaves this morning I know there are more to be caught!

Spring flowers

I have spring fever and can't wait to get my hands in the dirt. To tide me over until I can get out and get our vegtable boxes going I bought some annuals to plant. There is just something about coming home and being greeted with flowers! I can't wait until these grow and fill in.
I'm hoping for some nice weather Saturday so we can get our veggies going!
