A Lolly kind of day
Today our sweet Lolly turns 6 years old. Her morning started with Shannen making her muffins to go with our breakfast and everyone singing Happy Birthday to her. We are heading out to go bowling, then she will have lunch with Daddy and Mama, (she chose Panda Express for lunch) then home to swim, hit her piƱata, and tonight we will go to the Nuts game. It will be a fun filled day. The only thing she said that would make it better would be having Shelbie here. (only 18 days to go!)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOLLY!

Head bumps and faith
Yesterday was a rough day in Neyville. The day started out like any other but quickly went bad. The girls asked to eat outside on the picnic table for lunch. A few minutes into their meal Shylie girl fell backwards off the bench onto the brick patio. Shannen ran out and grabbed her and as soon as I had her in my arms I realized it was serious. She was crying, but not like you would think after the hit she took. The cry was almost as if she was to hurt to cry. We quickly started our normal routine with head bumps. Usually 5 doses of homeopathic Nat Sulph will pull the child out of it within 15 minutes. Not this time. When I realized that didn’t work I tried Arnica. One of the basic rules with homeopathy is if one remedy doesn’t work it’s not the right one and you need to try a different one.
The arnica didn’t seem to help either. She laid sleeping in my arms but you could tell she was hurting. Then all of a sudden she started throwing up. I’ve dealt with other head injuries before that involved throwing up so I didn’t panic over this. I prayed over what to do and called Duane. After years of playing sports, seeing and also having concussions he said to watch her and wake her every 30 minutes or so. We don’t usually run to the doctor without really praying over it and asking ourselves what they would they do. In this case we knew they would do x-rays or cat scan and then just watch her. We decided to watch her here and continue treating her here.
She laid on the couch looking very pale and threw up a few more times. I put a call into our naturopath, but there was no answer. Two hours had passed and I was very concerned. I texted Duane asking if he was on his way home because I wanted him to assess the situation. I was ready to go in.
I sat by her praying and praying and then it suddenly occurred to me that I really spend more time in prayer asking for things instead of offering up thanks. I really wanted to continue to just pray for healing but felt in my spirit I needed to give thanks instead. I started thanking the Lord that Shylie was fearfully and wonderfully made. I thanked him that He held her in the palm of His hand, thanked Him that He died on the cross of Calvary and took all of our sickness and disease on His body. I sat there and continue thanking Him for all He is, all He does, and for the grace He freely gives.
I went to use the bathroom and asked Him for wisdom on what to do. I didn’t want to make any decisions based on fear. As I walked out of the bathroom Shaylah met me in the hallway and said it was our naturopath. I filled her in on what was going on and she told me some things to try then I was to call her back in an hour. We still didn’t see a turn around but I had a peace about staying home, at least for the moment. An hour later she had us start a different remedy. 20 minutes later she threw up again, then promptly dozed back off. About 30 minutes later she opened her eyes and asked for water. After that she said she was hungry.
That was one of the longest 6 hours in my life watching her lay there and feeling so helpless. I had to completely surrender her to the Lord and moment by moment seek Him as what to do. Today as I have spent the day telling her to stop running, no climbing, and having the kids rotate reading to her and keeping her calm I am once again marveling at the Lord’s goodness. We are continuing with the remedies for 3 more days for good measure, but besides a small headache off and on she is doing great. I am so thankful I didn’t react based on fear, but rather I responded and sought the Lord.
I am also once again in awe at how the Lord designed the human body and how amazing it is that He has provided plants and herbs that can be used to heal the body. Normally with concussions you just watch and wait. I am so grateful that we could give her something to allow her body to heal. It truly is amazing!
This evening Shylie was sitting in the doorway to the back patio blowing bubbles and she stopped and had her little head bowed so sweetly. My mom motioned for me to snap a picture because of how sweet she looked. I asked her what she was doing to which she replied, “I’m pwaying for Shelbie in Afwica!”

8 Surprising Habits That Will Give You a Longer Life
8 Surprising Habits That Will Give You a Longer Life (this came in my inbox and was to good not to share!)
1. Floss Your Teeth Every Day
Strange but true. This information comes straight from the medical community. Emory University conducted a study some years back showing that daily flossers live an average of 6.4 years longer than those who never or only rarely floss. Flossing doesn't only prevent periodontal diseases, it reduces the amount of bacteria that you swallow and introduce to your digestive track. Flossing is also proven to fight heart disease. When bacteria builds in the mouth, the immune system launches an attack. This triggers inflammation in the arteries, which can cause them to narrow.
2. Eat at Least 1 Fresh Fruit and 1 Raw Vegetable a Day
Uncooked fruits and vegetables are a great supply of life enhancing enzymes, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients, many of which are aids in fighting the major diseases. Go for variety and bright color. The darker green lettuces pack more vitamins and minerals than the lighter iceberg types. An easy way to get more raw vegetables in your diet is a colorful salad at each meal. Go for 5 ingredients minimum. Mix it up and experiment. I have revolutionized my salad building with a Salad Shooter. When I have extra time, I grate up different vegetables (cucumber, radish, bell pepper, celery, beets, carrots) and store them in an airtight container. When I'm ready to make a salad, I have a mini salad bar in my fridge. As for fruits, one first thing in the morning is a great habit to cultivate. I go for a second piece of raw fruit (with nuts or yogurt) in the mid-afternoon.
3. Eat Slowly and Chew Well
Digestion begins in the mouth, with the chewing of our food. Chemicals in our saliva actually perform a digestive function. That's one reason to chew well. Keep in mind too that when we eat fast and swallow large pieces of food, we overload our digestive system and set up conditions for a variety of short-term digestive problems (like heartburn) as well as more serious long-term problems (colitis or cancer). One of the primary causes of digestive disorders is what we might call low mastication (not enough chewing). Give yourself at least 20 minutes per meal and chew each mouthful at least 20 times. Think of it as the 20-20 rule.
4. Wash Your Hands
The Center for Disease Control says that the most effective way to prevent catching contagious diseases is regular hand-washing, especially when you're in public places. During cold and flu season, be fastidious about this. Carry disinfectant wipes in your purse or car for convenience. Use them every time you've been in a public place like the grocery store, post office or classroom and any time you're in direct contact with people. We never know who might be carrying contagions. Public pens and door handles are notorious carriers of infectious microbes. Washing your hands will absolutely reduce your bouts of cold and flu.
5. Drink More Water
Most of us suffer from chronic mild dehydration. Medical science is discovering that dehydration is a contributing factor to most illnesses. As one researcher says, "our bodies are starving for water!" Drinking sugary sodas laden with artificial colors and flavors may quench your thirst, but they are only contributing more junk to your body's filtration needs. Water cleanses waste and toxins from our body and lubricates joints and organ systems (like the colon). Your body needs a daily supply of fresh, pure water (no sweeteners) to filter toxins and impurities out of its systems. Aim for 3 quarts a day. Unsweetened herbal tea is OK.
6. Love Your Liver
Your liver performs an amazing array of essential functions, and it is constantly stressed by our modern lifestyles. Liver disease is the fourth most common cause of death in the US. Get in the habit of nourishing and cleansing your liver. There are simple and even pleasant ways of loving your liver. One is a yearly liver cleanse with a lemon detox diet. A squeeze of lemon (about half a lemon) in a cup of warm water first thing in the morning is very cleansing. Your liver is performing vital functions in the morning, so to prevent overloading it, keep your morning meal low in fat.
7. Exercise Your Brain
People who keep their minds sharp live longer. Maintaining active neuro pathway activity helps fight Alzheimer's Disease, increases cell growth in the brain and reduces the loss of synapse connectivity. Activities that promote brain health include planning, playing chess, doing crossword puzzles, learning a new language or skill, traveling, experiencing new settings, meeting new people, and exercise that involves coordination. Do something every day to keep your mind fit and your memory sharp.
8. Volunteer
The Buck Institute for Age Research has found that people who are involved in charity work have a 44% lower death rate than those who do not volunteer. Like exercise, unselfish acts of kindness boots your anti-bodies (which enhances your immune system) and stimulates serotonin production (which improves mood). Giving your time for the betterment of others can restore one's sense of optimism and positivity. The Mayo Clinic reports that people who are optimistic live longer, by as much as 20%. So if your attitude veers toward the negative or your focus has been too self-oriented, think about volunteering once a week. It will add years to your life, and they'll be happier ones.
Happenings from Neyville
Where did last week go? I couldn’t really tell you. Every day feels busy even when we are just hanging around home which is exactly what we’ve been fortunate enough to be doing.
Last week I did a bit of deep cleaning in my bedroom. I weeded thru my closet and pulled out a couple bags of clothes and shoes to goodwill. I also went thru and organized school curriculum in bins by subject and stored some of those under the crib in my room. The little girls have spent several nights sleeping in our room since its been clean.
We celebrated the 4th of July here with family and sweet friends. We had lots of yummy food and some delicious desserts. The weather couldn’t have been better. We were worried about it being too warm but it ended up perfect. Aunt Dee Dee thought it would be funny to sneak the babies chocolate cake, so Shyloh and I ended up hiring a hit on her. Who else do you turn to when you need a dark deed done?? Of course…Shaylah! (Insert wicked laugh here…) We had Shaylah give Aunt Dee Dee back a little of the cake she was sneaking to our little guys.
Shiro and Bodey have definitely mastered the whole walking thing. They are pros! What is it with walking and the mental changes that take place with it? They just seems smarter and wiser now. They love being outside and love playing in their pool.
I really couldn’t tell you what Shannen was thinking here. He decided to try and fit into the Little Tykes car we have.
Maybe he just wanted to give me something to blog on? Thanks, Shannen!
We finally got our new stove hood. We had a microwave above the stove that we haven’t used in over 3 years. I hated even having it plugged in as even that puts out a small level of radiation but since it was hard wired in we had no choice. I love having our microwave out of the house, but I do miss having the great timer on it and also a place to store things from little fingers. I found that one out today when our cooling zucchini bread kept getting little finger bites out of it.
Isn’t it purdy? Notice the dirty, yucky wall where the microwave once lived? Well, that will soon be replaced by bead board! Yay! I have wanted Duane to put up bead board in my kitchen for a while, now we have to!
We made a paper chain to count down how many more days until Shelbie comes home. I thought having something visual that the little girls can see would be helpful and easier than trying to show them and count on the calendar. Everyday we remove one chain link. To make it fun I added 3 party days to celebrate the countdown, a pizza party, an ice-cream, and on day 5 a “to be announced” party. Any excuse for a party is good! I have a feeling time will seem to go quickly from here on out in Neyville. We’ve spent the last couple of weeks doing lots of relaxing, swimming, and sipping sweet tea. From here on out we have lots of things going on. The men have a camping trip in a couple of weeks and we are also hoping to get a family camping trip in this month. Shyloh is down to 5 weeks left, but we are really wondering if this little blessing may come sooner. I have oodles of school planning to do this month and I’ve waited so long that now I feel a wee bit stressed over it. Sweet Lolly has a birthday coming up that she is daily counting down to and then after that Shelbie will almost be back. What has felt like forever will quickly feel like no time at all. We can’t wait to have Shelbie back home with us and hear all about what the Lord has been doing! We are expecting some great and awesome things!

Clean rooms, late dinners, and pretty toes
Today I spent most of my day cleaning my room. I don’t ever let my kids get away with messy rooms even though mine is a constant struggle for me to maintain. Sad, but true. In my defense though my room is upstairs away from the rest of the house. When I come downstairs in the morning it is so hard for me to get back up to tidy it up. The baby takes a morning nap around 9ish so I can’t go up there during that time, then Shylie takes her nap upstairs around 12:30 – 1:00, so once again the upstairs is off limits. While she is still taking her nap Shiro is ready to go back down for his second nap around 2 or so. Do these excuses help at all?? How bout we just call my room the “napping room”?
Well, the napping room needed some serious attention today so I had to quit making excuses and clean. I put Shiro in the playpen in the boys room for his morning nap and I headed upstairs. Poppet, Lolly, and Shadd brought their school work so I could still feel like we were getting things done. I folded about 4 baskets of laundry that the kids had washed, dried, and put in baskets in my room. I also went thru and collected 2 baskets worth of things to goodwill. Tomorrow I’m going to dust and vacuum and it will be a new room. My kiddos got so excited when they saw it clean. They’ve been asking to do another slumber party upstairs, but I kept telling them no because there really was no where for them to sleep because all the baskets of laundry took up all the room! Slumber party here we come!!
It was my night to make dinner. I started it at 4:30 and really thought that was plenty of time. I have no idea what happened but we didn’t eat til 8:30. I did have a few minor interruptions and maybe it was to much multitasking? I was working on dinner while canning some jam. Shyloh wondered if it was all my little “helpers” helping. Whatever the case it was late…very late. My lasagna roll ups were really yummy but I think I may do something simpler for my dinner night on Tuesday. I’m thinking of grilled peanut butter and jelly. Grilling it may make it sound a bit more gourmet…and I think I’ll start making it on Monday.
Once we woofed dinner down we took the kids to watch the fireworks after the Nut’s game. The game went into 11 innings. Ugh! Maybe it was a blessing in disguise that we ate so late? While waiting for the fireworks to start Shelbie sent her good morning text. As she was watching a beautiful sunrise we were sitting in the dark. So strange. lol She was sharing on her day before.
Shelbie and the other interns had a party for the girls in the Lukasa, My Father’s Homes. She helped wash the dirty, cracked, and sore feet of these precious girls. Many of them don’t have shoes so can you imagine what a blessing this simple act was to these girls. These sweet girls then had their nails clipped and pretty polish put on them. Shelbie said that they seemed so surprised and blessed by this. They must have felt like a princess for a day! How much we take simple things like clean feet and toenail polish for granted. For these girls this was pampering like nothing else!
My prayer for these girls is that they realize that they ARE princesses! They are the Kings daughters! I pray that thru such a simple act of washing feet and painting toes pretty that they feel something so much deeper, that they are loved by God! Pray for the children that Shelbie and the other interns are ministering to. These children have been thru things that many adults have never gone thru and they carry so much hurt, but we know that is why Jesus came. To take that hurt and replace it with His love. An everlasting love. What a privilege for Shelbie and the other interns to truly be hands and feet for Jesus!

Happy 18th birthday Shelbie!
Today is Shelbie’s 18th birthday. It’s a very bittersweet day here. While we are missing here like crazy we are happy she is in the place the Lord has called her to be.
Before she left we surprised her with a party so we could at least feel like we were able to celebrate with her. We had close friends and family join us. It was a fun time and she was very surprised.
Today we just hung out. The kids swam and watched a movie. We bbq’d a big tri tip/chicken dinner with all the yummy sides like baked potatoes, and corn on the cob. We also had ice cream for dessert. It made us feel like we were still celebrating! (Thanks Shelbie!)
Shadd asked me tonight, “Has Shelbie been gone for 4 months?” My reply: “No, honey, only 3 weeks.” Shadd: “Wow! It feels like she’s been gone forever. That’s about how we are all feeling.
These were from her surprise birthday in May
Happy Birthday Shelbie!!
