Four years of Joy

Yesterday we celebrated four years of life with Shandie Rhylin. Her name means "God’s Gift of Joy" and she truly does bring us so much joy!

I went into my pregnancy with some fear. I was in the middle of some chronic health issues and dealing with an autoimmune disease, I had hemorrhaged the last three births, and I was 43 years old. I didn't consider my age a factor at all but when dealing with the medical field your age can definitely make things tricky when I preferred to go completely natural and your health provider wants you to do every test imaginable! I was probably his worst nightmare as a patient because I said no to everything!

I had a wonderful pregnancy with Shandie and ended up going two weeks overdue with her. My labor and birth was uneventful and I didn't hemorrhage with her! I pushed her into this world without the doctor being in the room and our sweet nurse caught her.

This brown eyed, curly haired beauty has been such a blessing to our family. She is all things girlie! Tutu's, baby dolls, ribbons and bows, and she lavishly shares sweet kisses with everyone she loves! The Lord has mighty plans for Shandie's little life! I absolutely love this tiny girl and am so grateful that God chose me to be her mama!

Happy Birthday Shylie!

Five years ago, after a very surprising  two day long labor (the one before was only 20-30 min of hard labor!), the sweetest baby girl was born. She was born in the water and before I even pulled her up to me I saw the most amazing dimples. I was smitten before I even checked to see if she was a girl or boy.
We started calling her “Smiley Shylie” right from the start. This little girl loved to smile. She smiled from the beginning! Her first smile was while we were still sitting in the bath tub right after birth. She smiled in her sleep, she smiled when she was awake, she smiled when she pooped! LOL
She is still Smiley Shylie today and she brings so much to our family! We are blessed every day by her! She is in T-K this year and is the best little student ever! She loves her kitty, Meow-Meow, with all her heart and the feeling is quite mutual from the cat. She loves playing dolls and loves her big sisters and brothers and they all adore her as well!

Happy Birthday Shayden!

This is a few days late…

Shayden is our firstborn son, he broke the cycle of having only girls. We absolutely adored our little girls and would have been completely content with only ever having girls. Then we had Shayden!

Very early into my pregnancy with him I knew it was different. Within just a few months I was convinced I was having a boy! I remember Duane and I going out for dinner and talking about what to do with a boy! We didn’t know boys, we knew girls!! We were good at girls but boys were a whole new game! I remember the panic we actually felt over the responsibility of training and raising up a young man who would love the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind. A young man with godly character, who would one day raise up and support his own family.  We felt scared yet so excited at the thought of a little man joining our family!

We painted the cutest blue room with puffy airplanes on the wall, the bed was decorated in all things boy. We were so convinced this was a boy even without confirmation of a sonogram.

I hit 40 weeks and no sign of labor. At that doctor appointment as our doctor was feeling my stomach he said something just didn’t feel right. He suspected this baby was breech. He sent us for a sonogram which confirmed what he thought. I remember how devastated I felt. When the sonogram tech asked if we knew what we were having we said we thought boy. He then asked if we wanted to know for sure. At that point I wanted something to cheer me up so we said yes. I figured I needed to know if we painted a blue room in vain or not. Our feelings were confirmed…BOY!!

My c-section with Shayden was very hard. The spinal didn’t work so when they started to make the cut I felt it. They quickly put me under completely and I woke up a couple hours later to a nurse shoving a Polaroid picture of my baby in my face.  The recovery was also very difficult since I ended up with a spinal headache.

It took a couple weeks to recoup enough to start my baby mooning.  Shayden was a sweet baby and very easy. He was welcomed and loved by three big sisters who doted on him constantly. He has endured being dressed up, nails being painted, and hair being “done”. Thankfully he had the back up of two brothers very quickly!

Shayden is such a blessing to us all. He brings so much to our home and lives. He loves his geckos and is slowly getting into the breeding process, he loves playing the piano, he is fabulous about fixing things that are broken around here, he is even willing to change diapers and above all he loves the Lord. It is amazing to me that he is now a 14 year old young man. He is a delight and we are blessed!

Happy Birthday Shayden!

Happy Birthday Shadd!

Eleven years ago today I wasn’t worried or thinking about taxes, but I was focusing on breathing thru every contraction and working with my body to birth our third baby boy.

Shadd came right on the feet of his two brothers, weighing in at a whopping 9lbs 15 oz, and evening up the teams, making us the parents of 3 boys and 3 girls and giving us three busy boys under the age of three.

Shadd’s name means “happy go lucky”, and he lives up to that meaning daily! He is sweet boy who’s love language is most definitely physical touch.  He loves to give hugs and loves to get them!  He is affectionately  called “bug boy” as he is always looking for bugs and insects. He spends lots of time catching flies to feed to his frog and loves to read anything that has to do with reptiles or insects.

Shadd also has the most creative mind! We are constantly amazed at the things he invents and creates.  Last summer when we went camping he pulled out a boat he had made that ran off batteries! It worked! He drove it all over the river with it attached to his fishing pole so he could reel it back in when it went to far.  He also was involved in Science Olympiad this year and worked diligently on creating a mousetrap car. We have no doubt that God has gifted him and he is going to do amazing things when he grows up!

We love you so much Shadd! Thank you for evening up the teams 11 years ago and bring laughter and more love to our home!
