Shelbie

Shelbie was diagnosed with scoliosis a couple of weeks ago. Our chiropractor told us that we needed to go see an orthopedic surgeon. He wasn't comfortable working on her at all. After getting online and reading everything I could on it I wasn't comfortable to go that route. After praying about it for a week we decided to get a second opinion first. We took her to another chiropractor to be looked at. He did a nerve test and x-rays last week. Tuesday we went back to sit with him and go over all the results. She has an "S" shaped curve to her spine. The top curve is 5 degrees and the bottom curve 7 degrees. Our original chiropractor had guessed she was between 15 and 20 degrees. He didn't do any x-rays though. We were thrilled to find out that it wasn't as bad as we were first told. She also has some nerve damage in her neck from her neck trying to compensate for the spine. This chiropractor said he would never refer us to a surgeon for this. He said he wished he could have started working on her two years ago because by now most of her growing is probably done or will be done in the next 6 months or so. Her growth plates have already started to fuse. He is still very optimistic though about treating her. She will be going to him 3 times a week for the next 3 months and then 1 time a week for the following 3 months. After that we will do more x-rays and another nerve test to see where we are. She had two treatments this week and he has her doing some exercises at home. Please pray that the Lord touches her back. He is the great physician and we know nothing is to big for Him!
